According to the news from TeLeTica, passengers can now pay for their tickets with a payment card. The modality is available on the San José-Cartago route and will be extended to all lines in the coming weeks. The payment method is simple: with a debit or credit card, travelers can pay for their ticket by bringing it to one of the NEXGO N6 carried by the train attendant of the Costa Rican Railway Institute (INCOFER). It is a contactless system.

N6 is the first smart mini POS terminal of NEXGO. The structural design is optimized for a 16.9 mm slim body with the thinnest part only 12.6 mm. It’s specially designed to be compact and light for easy carrying and one-hand operation. Even so light it is, N6 runs on a quad-core processor, and accepts all payment methods of magnetic strip cards, IC cards, contactless/NFC, 1D & 2D barcodes. With the 5.0” HD large touchscreen of the N6, you can get clearer customer e-signatures, read more information at one time, and the operation is simpler just like your smartphone. That’s easier for the train attendant of Incofer to carry and use. More than that marvelous performance of N6 achieves instantaneous payment.

Besides, the value-added services, NEXGO Cloud and RKI (Remote Key Injection), are also parts of this project. They energize the management of the terminals and optimize the user experience. Incofer adopts for their NEXGO POS terminals batch management.

For now, electronic payment was implemented on the San José-Cartago route, and in the following weeks, it will be gradually activated on the routes to Heredia, Alajuela, and San Antonio de Belén. The system will be implemented on all routes by October 11.

The inauguration activity was attended by the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, the First Lady of the Republic, Claudia Dobles, Fernando Quevedo, representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Costa Rica, among other leaders.

“It's safer, it's better for health issues, and it also enables the contactless payment. It facilitates the collection of INCOFER, it is a win to win for all people ”, Alvarado commented.

The Government claimed to be working to expand this payment method to bus lines. The launch in this mode of transport is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
